Lent Day 6

There is an integral relationship between community and generosity. People who give gifts are going to have many friends. Superficially, this may mean that people will be nice to you if they can get something from you–I don’t think that’s the point of this proverb. Rather, in community, generosity reflects an others-centric heart. The one who cares deeply for their brothers and sisters in Christ will quickly give time, resources, and/or money when needs arise in the community as an outpouring of their love for others. Consider needs in your small group or in circles of friends you have in our church and how you may be able to help.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, make us quick to give when needs arise in our church. We pray that you would provide richly for everyone in our church through mutual generosity. Amen.
