“Slaves” to Righteousness

Why does Paul speak in analogies?

Paul uses the analogy of salve and master to get us to think about our obedience.

What is the relationship between your master and your obedience?

Paul says that we can know our master based on who we obey. This isn’t about who you must obey to get what you want. It’s about who your King is and, therefore, who you should obey.

Where should our obedience to Christ stem from?

Our obedience is not as slaves who obey from enticement, fear, obligation, extortion, or force, but is from love. When Christ brings us into his kingdom, he makes a covenant with us and we are to respond to that with covenant devotion.

If a Christian sins, does that mean he is not loyal to Jesus?

No! However, since you are counted righteous, you are experiencing sanctification - the mastery of your flesh. We are to be growing in Christ likeness, growing in obeidience, and learning to master the flesh.
