The Response to the Gospel
The sermon explores how people come to faith, highlighting Paul’s teaching in Romans. The hearing of the gospel requires a response. Paul outlines a process: calling on Jesus follows belief, belief follows hearing, and hearing requires someone to proclaim the message.
At the heart of the message is the proclamation of Jesus as King—his life, death, resurrection, ascension, and current reign. The sermon stresses that sharing this story (not just personal testimony) is central to gospel witness. Not all who hear will respond the same: some believe, others reject, and some need to hear more before committing.
Paul uses Israel as an example—though they heard the message, many didn’t respond in faith. Yet God hasn’t rejected his people; there remains a faithful remnant. Similarly today, the kingdom is open to all who respond in faith to King Jesus.
