Not Ashamed of The Gospel
In Romans 1:8-17, we’ll see three reasons why we should not be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ so that we will be bold to make Christ known.
1. Because of Obligation
Romans 1:8–10: "First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world. For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God’s will I may now at last succeed in coming to you."
Paul is not ashamed of the Gospel, not afraid to be ridiculed by society, because he is obligated to preach the Gospel. It is a charge given to him by God and he is not going to fail at his charge.
2. Because the Gospel is Power
Romans 1:16: "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek."
Paul is not ashamed of that Gospel because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.
3. Because the Gospel Reveals God’s Righteousness
Romans 1:17: "For in it [the Gospel] the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”"
Without the Gospel we don’t see the righteousness of God. But in the Gospel we are able to see God’s righteousness.
Why can’t we be ashamed of the Gospel?
We aren’t ashamed of the Gospel because we can’t be. It’s something we live out day by day. It redefines who we are and how we live. We cannot be ashamed or the Gospel is not in us.
