1st Week, Hope: Anchor
As part of the liturgical church calendar, beginning four Sundays before Christmas, Palmdale Church will hold worship gatherings surrounding the themes of Advent. During these gatherings, we will have special liturgies and light candles on the Advent wreath. Many of us also decorate our cars or house windows with symbols for each week and have other family advent traditions. Be sure to join for each of them!
Advent is a time to practice the disciplines of quietness and stillness as we wait for the Lord. Do your best not to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the culture. Make simple and easy meals, lessen electronic use, slow down, and spend time with others. Additionally, we have included optional, fun activities to complete with your family each week to create memories and help you slow down and remember what the season is for. Links to sample recipes, coloring pages, and songs are listed for each week.
- DECORATE Your car or home window by painting an anchor for hope.
- CREATE: Roll-up Beeswax Candles. These kits can be purchased at most craft stores or ordered online. Very simple to make, and little ones love it. Jesus the Light of the World gives us hope. Light the candles and cuddle up to read Christmas stories.
