Satan shows up as a motif for the presence of evil among these churches. That should cause us to pause and ask questions about how Satan might be trying to influence our church.
In this message we look at the relationship between the 7 seals and the 7 trumpets. We also begin to place the seals and trumpets into a chronology to understand the flow of the narrative of Revelation and the coming of the end.
The theme of the story is war in heaven. When did Satan fall? Probably not when you think. Who are the stars that were swept out of the sky and why did they join the Dragon’s armies to fight against heaven?
God’s wrath raises the question of God’s love. Is God an angry God? How can God be a God of love if he seems angry at humanity?
First and second death? First and second resurrection? What’s this all about, really? Inn this message, we talk about the ideas of the 1st and 2nd deaths and resurrections to bring some clarity to these questions, as well as application. If Satan was bound at the 1st death, that will inevitably affect our worldview as well as behavior as humanity awaits the 2nd, ultimate death. For Christians, we have a great hope of a 2nd resurrection that informs how we live and how we see the world as well.
Our life is neither hopeless nor meaningless. What we do matters to God. This message encourages us to REMEMBER that there is a future for Christians and that the future is foundational to the Christian faith. We are to WATCH and pray for the arrival of the future return of Jesus. And we LIVE as though what we do in life now matters to God in the end—our lives are not hopeless or meaningless, but purposeful and valuable in God’s eyes.
