Psalm 82 (CSB)

Psalm 82

A psalm of Asaph.

God stands in the divine assembly;

he pronounces judgment among the gods:,

“How long will you judge unjustly

and show partiality to the wicked?

Provide justice for the needy and the fatherless;

uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute.

Rescue the poor and needy;

save them from the power of the wicked.”

They do not know or understand;

they wander in darkness.

All the foundations of the earth are shaken.

I said, “You are gods;

you are all sons of the Most High.

However, you will die like humans

and fall like any other ruler.”

Rise up, God, judge the earth,

for all the nations belong to you.

Proverbs 15:18–24 (CSB)

18 A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict,

but one slow to anger calms strife.

19 A slacker’s way is like a thorny hedge,

but the path of the upright is a highway.

20 A wise son brings joy to his father,

but a foolish man despises his mother.

21 Foolishness brings joy to one without sense,

but a person with understanding walks a straight path.

22 Plans fail when there is no counsel,

but with many advisers they succeed.

23 A person takes joy in giving an answer;

and a timely word—how good that is!

24 For the prudent the path of life leads upward,

so that he may avoid going down to Sheol.

Luke 23:44–56 (CSB)

44 It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three, 45 because the sun’s light failed. The curtain of the sanctuary was split down the middle. 46 And Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I entrust my spirit., Saying this, he breathed his last.

47 When the centurion saw what happened, he began to glorify God, saying, “This man really was righteous!” 48 All the crowds that had gathered for this spectacle, when they saw what had taken place, went home, striking their chests. 49 But all who knew him, including the women who had followed him from Galilee, stood at a distance, watching these things.

50 There was a good and righteous man named Joseph, a member of the Sanhedrin, 51 who had not agreed with their plan and action. He was from Arimathea, a Judean town, and was looking forward to the kingdom of God. 52 He approached Pilate and asked for Jesus’s body. 53 Taking it down, he wrapped it in fine linen and placed it in a tomb cut into the rock, where no one had ever been placed., 54 It was the preparation day, and the Sabbath was about to begin. 55 The women who had come with him from Galilee followed along and observed the tomb and how his body was placed. 56 Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes. And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.

December 4, 2020 (Peter was standing at the outer gate.)

The Lord has appointed the blessing— life forevermore. One who walks in wisdom will be safe. Peter was kept in prison, but the church was praying fervently to God for him. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared, and said, “Quick, get up!” And the chains fell off his wrists. He went to the house of Mary where many had assembled and were praying. He knocked at the door of the outer gate, and a servant came to answer. When they opened the door and saw him, they were amazed.

Pandemic Update: Vaccines, Churches and Dr. Francis Collins

The two discussed the virus and what they believed the church should be concerned about amid the pandemic. Dr. Collins recommended that the church stay very conservative on the restrictions as the virus continues to spread far more rapidly than in past months. They also discussed the timing of a vaccine and reopening. Dr. Collins predicts that our society will begin a move back towards normality as soon as a vaccine is released, which could be in the next few weeks.

December 11, 2020 (Faithful Love)

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His faithful love endures forever. A man who loves wisdom brings joy to his father, but one who consorts with prostitutes destroys his wealth. Since we have heard that some without our authorization went out from us and troubled you with their words and unsettled your hearts, we have unanimously decided to select men and send them to you along with our dearly loved Barnabas and Paul, who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. The churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers.
